The practical katana plus, is a hand-forged, sharpened steel blade with nicer finish and fittings that the popular practical katana.

The practical katana plus features the same high-carbon steel and genuine hamon (temper line) as featured on the practical katana and the swords of Miyamoto Musashi, both made by the masters at Hanwei Forge. This differentially clay tempered blade has a blade hardness of RC60 on the cutting edge and RC40 on the spine.

The practical katana plus is very sharp, and it has a more polished finish than the plain practical katana, and the tsuba (guard) is a stylized open flower design. The scabbard has a black texturized finish and the sageo (cord) is tied in traditional samurai fashion.

Although the blade is not the traditional folded steel of a japanese sword, the blade is hand-forged featuring a genuine hamon in the o-midare style by using the traditional sculpted clay method of tempering.

The high edge hardness and resilient blade body produced by this technique embody the true secret of the samurai sword and set the practical katana plus apart from mass-produced practice swords. The cotton-laced handle is genuine ray-skin over wood and unlike the plain practical katana the handle is pegged and can be disassembled.
